Dr Susan Pond AM

Dr Pond is a senior leader in business & academia, recognised for her national & international contributions in medicine, science & technology. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of NSW (FRSN), the Australian Academy of Technology & Engineering (FTSE), and The Australian Academy of Health & Medical Sciences (FAHMS).

In April 2021, Dr Pond was elected as President of the Royal Society of NSW. In this role, she leads the oldest learned society in the Southern Hemisphere and works to amplify the Society’s impact as a leading, independent source of knowledge and debate.

Dr Pond was Director of The University of Sydney Nano Institute from 2017 - 2018. This multidisciplinary institute advances the University's discipline strength in quantum science, nanophotonics, nanoscale materials & molecular nanoscience while also studying the potential impacts of these technologies beyond science, medicine and engineering into the humanities and social sciences. 

From 2010 - 2016, Dr Pond worked in the field of renewable energy through her appointment at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. Dr Pond's interests include the transition of the aviation sector to alternative fuels; the market sectors driving demand for biojet; the multiple product and business opportunities; and the policy settings to enable development of integrated systems and transport energy security.

Dr Pond is Adjunct Professor in Engineering & Information Technologies at the University of Sydney, Director of Biotron Limited, Vectus Biosystems Limited & Trusted Autonomous Systems Defence CRC, Chairman of the Australian Institute of Bioengineering & Nanotechnology, & the New South Wales Smart Sensing Network. She is Member of the Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE) Expert Advisory Group. In 2013, the Australian Financial Review and Westpac named her a Top 100 Women of Influence.

Dr Pond served on many significant Australian Government Boards and Committees, most recently on the Board of the Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organisation (ANSTO), Commercialisation Australia and Chair of the Clean Technology Innovation Committee.
