Professor Sven Rogge

Professor Sven Rogge is Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) at the University of New South Wales, Sydney (UNSW) and President of the Australian Institute of Physics. Until the end of 2019, Sven was the Head of the School of Physics at UNSW. Before joining UNSW in 2011 as a professorial level ARC Future Fellow, he worked at the Kavli Institute for Quantum Nano Science at Delft University and Stanford University, where he received his PhD in Physics in 1997. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the Australian Institute of Physics, and the Royal Society of New South Wales.

Sven's research interest is in experimental condensed matter physics, in particular quantum computation in silicon in the ARC Centre for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology. In a team of enthusiastic researchers, he works on gaining atomistic insight into the interactions of quantum objects, like atoms and qubits, with their environment. This allows the team to manipulate quantum information and minimise decoherence.
