XPRIZE Wildfire – NSW Competitor Briefing

XPRIZE Wildfire is a $11M USD, 4 year international competition to incentivise teams from around the world to innovate across a wide range of technologies in two complementary tracks designed to transform how fires are detected, managed, and fought:

  • In Track A: Space-Based Wildfire Detection & Intelligence track, teams will have one minute to accurately detect all fires across a landscape larger than entire states or countries, and 10 minutes to precisely characterize and report data with the least false positives to fire managers on the ground.

  • In Track B: Autonomous Wildfire Response track, teams will need to monitor at least 1,000 km2, and autonomously suppress a wildfire within 10 minutes of detection.

The Lockheed Martin Accurate Detection Intelligence Bonus Prize will be awarded for innovations in accurate and precise detection of wildfires.

The NSW Smart Sensing Network in collaboration with the Minderoo Foundation and the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer has organised this briefing to help NSW competitors and those considering entering the competition to learn about XPRIZE Wildfire and how NSW can provide assistance to entrants.

The briefing will include presentations by the Minderoo Foundation, the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer, the NSW Smart Sensing Network, Connectivity Innovation Network, Space Research Network and Defence Innovation Network.

Financial Support to Fuel NSW Innovation in the XPRIZE Wildfire Competition - Space-Based Track

The NSW Government is here to support up to 13 NSW teams or consortia that are looking to enter XPRIZE Wildfire, a $16 million (AUD) international competition focused on advancing technology for the detection and rapid response to bushfires.

To encourage NSW organisations to participate in the competition, the NSW Government will reimburse the $500 (USD) registration fee for NSW teams and consortia entering the $7.5 million (AUD) Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track.

Registrations for the Space-Based Wildfire Detection and Intelligence Track close on Thursday, 31 August. The registration simply includes team membership, solution focus area, expertise and willingness to collaborate. Registering allows you to show your interest with the XPRIZE team who are there to support you.

XPRIZE Wildfire presents an unparalleled opportunity to showcase your technology on a global stage. Collaboration is strongly encouraged during the competition and teams can share ideas and officially merge with others at any stage. Regardless of your team's size or experience, XPRIZE is committed to actively supporting you in collaborating with others (if you so wish) and ensuring your technology or solution gains the recognition it deserves.
