Meet the industry partner: Neuranext

Adrian Tyson is the founder of Neuranext, an Australian education company that delivers hands-on programs in artificial intelligence, robotics and emerging technologies to schools, universities and industry. A qualified NSW teacher and AI education specialist, Adrian is helping build the next generation of talent in smart sensing and robotics through immersive learning experiences featuring computer vision systems, autonomous vehicles, AI-powered drones and advanced robotics. He is a recognised advocate for STEM education and emerging technologies. 

Tell me about your interest in robotics

My interest in robotics goes all the way back to the novels of Science Fiction author Isaac Asimov. These captured my imagination and now we are seeing this become reality. Practically though, I saw an opportunity to add the quadruped robots to my AI education program as a fantastic way to inspire and engage students with embodied AI. I see a future where these robotic systems are everywhere and there will be a big opportunity in that industry. 

What’s been your most rewarding achievement or moment in your robotics career?

Recently I delivered Australia’s first humanoid robot for a manufacturing use case in Queensland. This was a huge achievement as it hasn’t been done before. It is with a brand new manufacturer, and a brand new robot, the Agibot G2. Travelling to Brisbane to oversee the work of Agibot mechatronic engineers in setting up the robot and training end users on the incredible capability of G2 was incredible. I learnt about teleoperating G2 with a PICO 4 VR headset to collect task training data for the robot as well as the GDK, LIDAR SLAM mapping, waypoint setting and dexterous robotic hands. Leaving there with a successfully installed manufacturing humanoid was my most rewarding experience so far. 

What more are you hoping to achieve in your career?

I am hoping to participate in the emerging robotics industry in Australia by providing value between the factory and end user in Australia. I want to inspire many young people to become interested in the technology and to pursue careers in robotics through my education programs. 

Why is what you do important?

AI and robotics can seem out of reach for Australian students, especially regionally, I think it is very important to inspire and spark interest via experiential learning for these students. Building Australia’s future workforce capacity one inspired student at a time is why my work is so important for not just Australia, but for Australians.
